Mende and surroundings
Former capital of the Gévaudan, Mende is in the heart of the Lozère, ideally located in the upper Lot valley, at the gates of the Cévennes National Park. Surrounded by mountains, this charming little town reveals many architectural treasures along its picturesque cobbled streets lined with old houses... Small squares with fountains; a medieval bridge (Notre-Dame); the tower of the Penitents, a remnant of the old ramparts; its 18th century town hall with a slate roof and, of course, its magnificent flamboyant Gothic cathedral Notre-Dame-et-Saint-Privat located opposite our hotel.
A small town in the countryside, the surroundings of Mende offer many possibilities for nature lovers. The Causse de Mende is, in fact, a wonderful playground for enjoying outdoor leisure activities: hiking, cycling and mountain biking, climbing sports, canyoning, kayaking, rafting and other whitewater activities in the gorges of the Tarn.
Activities that you can enjoy with your family, such as visiting the Dargilan cave (largest cave in the Causses and the Cévennes), Aven Armand (exceptional natural site which shelters a forest of more than 400 stalagmites) and parks in themes or animals such as Utopix, the Gevaudan Wolf Park or the Przewalski Horse Park that your children will love.
